CODE OF ETHICS
The Cocker Spaniel Club of Victoria Inc. provides a forum for people to become more familiar with and be informed about their chosen breed – THE COCKER SPANIEL.
This Code of Ethics establishes a standard of conduct to be followed by all members of the Cocker Spaniel Club of Victoria Inc. in the normal course of owning, breeding, exhibiting, selling and judging Cocker Spaniels.
The quality of the breed can only be improved by discriminating and intelligent breeding programs. Breeding represents a great responsibility to each individual, as he or she can either upgrade or nullify many years of conscientious effort. The breeder must be aware of this responsibility and, therefore, breeding partners should be carefully investigated for background and serious faults before a commitment is made.
A Code of Ethics is only as good as those who abide by it.
As a member of the Cocker Spaniel Club of Victoria Inc. I hereby agree that:
- I will abide by my Club’s constitution and By-laws, and support the Dogs Australia Standard for the Cocker Spaniel.
- I will comply with all Dogs Victoria Rules and Regulations where they apply.
- I will at all times whether at home, travelling, at shows, in Social Media, electronic communications or in public places, display good sportsmanship and conduct myself in such a manner to reflect credit upon my Club and the Cocker Spaniel.
- I will help to educate the public in the Dogs Australia standard of the Breed and in all other areas where I am qualified.
- I will try and breed in such a manner as to improve the quality of the breed.
- I will not knowingly use for breeding any dogs and/or bitches with major defects or hereditary diseases.
- I will not knowingly mate my Cocker Spaniel to any non-Main Registered dog or bitch.
- I will only sell Cocker Spaniels in good healthy condition, free to the best of my knowledge from heritable disease.
- I will not knowingly sell any dog or bitch, which has defects of a nature that is detrimental to the Breed.
- I will supply each purchaser with a Certificate of Registration and Pedigree, Immunisation Certificate, Microchip Certificate and a Diet and Care Information Sheet.
- I will not sell stock without true representation to the purchaser. All advertising will be honest and not in any way misrepresentative, misleading, or fraudulent.
- I will continue to offer helpful assistance to the buyer for as long as such aid is required.
- I will not sell or donate any Cocker Spaniel to commercial dog wholesalers, retail pet dealers, or directly or indirectly allow them to be given as prizes in contest of any kind.
